Ron Owen for Mayor of Gympie Regional Council

I have called Gympie my home for 28 years. I married my wife in Gympie. My Daughter was born here. My parents are buried in Gympie, and I will die here. I love Gympie.

I have succeeded in an industry that has suffered more than most from negative interference by Government. The business employs six local people and trains apprentices as conditions allow.

The community of Gympie has been very loyal to me and my family business. I am deeply appreciative of this generosity. I hope the people in our Shire will allow me the honour and opportunity to represent them in Council and repay them my debt of gratitude with interest.

A friend of thirty years, amazed that after four years I still wanted to be a Councillor asked me why I wanted to be a Councillor again. After a few seconds of thought I had to say the main reason was that, I really enjoyed helping people solve problems.

The team I lead will help people by thinking of them first, not last or even not at all. The arrogance of the past and present has to change.

People who know me only from the media may believe stories I am a radical, timewaster, perhaps even a demon. I simply ask that you take some time to read the accounts of the people who have sought my help against Council indifference and skullduggery. Not to read praise of me but to understand that people in this Shire often need help and have had great difficulty in finding it. ‘Integrity’ will make the difference.
