Karen Berry for Gympie Regional Council

Karen has lived in the Gympie area for only the past four years but that’s long enough for her to become active in her community: she is secretary of Langshaw Hall, treasurer of the Langshaw Rural Fire Service, member of the Gympie Gem Club, secretary of the Cooloola Residents’ League and Primary Petitioner Against Wheelie Bins in the Langshaw area.

It is this last that has prompted her to stand as a candidate for Council: she has seen for herself how poorly the Shire is being run by a Council consisting primarily of greedy despots caring nothing for the people they were elected to represent.

During her nine years as an electronics technician in the RAN, Karen learnt integrity and respect — virtues critical for any councillor. She also learnt fairness and courtesy, qualities that are so often missing these days — especially in Council.

Karen learnt dedication and attention to detail when working as a technical writer and editor for Boeing Australia. Karen knows, too, how to achieve accountability and consultation through her committee work.

Nominating as a candidate for the first time is not Karen’s disadvantage! She will bring fresh ideas and energy to Council.
