My introduction to Local Government Politics began on 17th October 2001 when I approached Council regarding a road problem. Working the issue through with them, I felt that the following occurred:
(1) Many councillors did not bother to read my letters.
(2) Many councillors failed to impartially research the subject.
(3) Mysterious procedural delays occurred which worked against me.
(4) Other involved parties received favouritism.
(5) A councillor fell asleep during meeting sessions.
(6) Some department heads appeared to be bullied and their primary concern was not the well being of their constituents.
(7) Massive breaches of protocol occurred at Council meetings.
(8) A number of my fellow constituents were being treated as badly as, or worse than me.
What should have been a straight forward matter became an illogical and highly distressing saga.
5 years later, after some 40 letters, flowcharts, CAD drawn maps, photos and government submissions, I won a bittersweet victory.
For a moment, I became a micro-hero among my fellow down-trodden and they encouraged me to run for council. …....I am passionate about democracy.
I am passionate about our provincial lifestyle, I love the bush and I am aware of your needs.
I understand you…...Let me represent you.
